Stephen Bates, PhD, Chief Technology Officer, Eideticom

Stephen Bates is the CTO of Eideticom and is a renown expert on topics like NVMe, RDMA, TCP/IP and NVM. He has worked on a range of complex storage and communication systems include the NVMe controllers and PCIe switches developed by his former employer Microsemi (formerly PMC-Sierra). He enjoys working at the interface between hardware and software and is a active contributor to the Linux kernel. Before Eideticom he worked in the CTO at PMC-Sierra and before that was an Assistant Professor in Computer Engineering at The University of Alberta. He holds a PhD from The University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Kurtis Bowman, Dell

Kurtis Bowman is serving his third term as the President of the Gen-Z Consortium.  He is the Director of Architecture and Technology for Dell’s Server CTO Office.  Kurtis has been in the computer design business for nearly 30 years were he has been involved in the architecture, development, and business justification of server, storage, commercial and consumer computing products. 

Idan Burstein, Mellanox Technologies, Inc.

Idan Burstein is a Staff Silicon Architect at Mellanox Technologies, where he designs networking chips that support new speeds, standards, and offloads. He is also a contributing technical member of NVM Express Inc., the SNIA Solid State Storage Initiative (SSSI), and the InfiniBand Trade Association. Idan has worked 7 years Mellanox and previously spent 6 years working on analytics and big data. He has a BS in Electrical Engineering and BA in Economics from the Technion Institute of Israel.

Neal Christiansen, Principal Software Development Lead, Windows Storage and File Systems Group, Microsoft

Neal Christiansen is a Principal Software Development Lead for the Core File Systems team in the Windows Storage and File Systems Group at Microsoft (Redmond, WA). Neal joined Microsoft in 1999 as a member of the File System Filters team. In 2002 he became the Lead for this team and led the design and implementation of the Windows Filter Manager. In 2007 he became the lead of the NTFS development team. Neal has been involved with many technical advancements in the file systems and file system filter spaces and has 30+ years of system software development experience. He led the design and implementation of the NSS File System for NetWare while at Novell. Neal also led the design and implementation of the Motorola 68K based WMCS operating system while at Wicat Systems. Neal has a BS in Computer Science from Brigham Young University

Kevin Conley, President and CEO, Everspin

Kevin Conley has served as CEO of Everspin since September 0f 2017. Prior to Everspin, Kevin was senior vice president and CTO of SanDisk until June 2016, where he was focused on fostering strategic innovation at the company. Previously, he served as senior vice president and general manager of SanDisk’s Client Storage Solutions and spent over 21 years at SanDisk holding several key system engineering leadership positions. Conley is listed as the inventor or co-inventor on over 50 patents in the area of non-volatile memory architecture and management.

Tom Coughlin, President, Coughlin Associates

Tom Coughlin, President, Coughlin Associates is a widely respected storage analyst and consultant. He has over 35 years in the data storage industry with multiple engineering and management positions at high profile companies.. He founded Coughlin Associates, which provides market and technology analysis as well as Data Storage Technical Consulting services Tom is active with a variety of professional organizations, including SMPTE, the IEEE (he is Director for IEEE Region 6 and active in the Consumer Electronics Society) , and SNIA, where he is a frequent speaker and the Education Chair of the SNIA Solid State Storage Initiative. Tom publishes the Digital Storage Technology Newsletter, the Media and Entertainment Storage Report, the Emerging Non-Volatile Memory Report and other industry reports, and is also a regular contributor on digital storage for Forbes.com

Steve Dohrmann, Software Engineer, Intel

Steve Dohrmann is a Software Engineer at Intel.  He has worked on a variety of projects over the past 20 years including media frameworks, mobile agent software, secure collaboration software, and parallel programming language implementation.  He is currently working on enabling use of persistent memory in Java.

Junping Du, Chief Architect, Tencent Cloud

Junping Du is chief architect for Tencent Cloud Big Data Department and responsible for cloud data warehouse engineering team. As Apache Hadoop Committer/PMC member, he serves as release manager of Hadoop 2.6.x and 2.8.x for community. Junping has more than 10 years industry experiences in big data and cloud area. Before joining Tencent, he was YARN team lead at Hortonworks. Prior to Hortonworks, he worked as tech lead for vHadoop and Big Data Extension at VMware.

Wendy Elsasser, Distinguished Engineer, Arm

Wendy Elsasser has 20 years of experience in design and architecture with a focus on memory sub-systems for the last 15 years. Wendy has been at Arm for the last 5 years, working in the Memory and Systems Research group. Her work broadly includes future memory systems and specifically she is involved in the analysis of emerging technologies as well as new memory interfaces and standards.

Paul Grun,Open Fabrics Alliance Chair; Advanced Technology Development, Cray, Inc.

Paul Grun is a member of Cray’s Advanced Technology Group. During his more than 30 year career he has been intimately involved in all aspects of server I/O beginning with storage for large mainframe systems, turning to high performance network architecture and now focusing on applying I/O technology to building large scale systems at Cray Inc. His association with advanced networking technology stretches back to prior to the emergence of InfiniBand when he represented Intel to the InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA). He has served as chair of the IBTA’s Technical Working Group and as chair for the working group responsible for creating the RoCE (RDMA over Converged Ethernet) specifications. He is currently active representing Cray as a member of the IBTA’s Steering Committee. Paul has also been influential in the OFA since its inception in 2004; in addition to his current role serving as the OFA’s Chair, he is serving as the co-chair of the OpenFabrics Interfaces Working Group (OFIWG) and as chair of the Data Storage / Data Access Working Group.

Frank Hady, Fellow, Intel Corporation

Frank Hady is an Intel Fellow and the Chief Systems Architect in Intel’s Non-Volatile Memory Solutions Group (NSG).  Frank leads architectural definition of products based on both Intel® 3D Xpoint™ memory and NAND memory, and guides research into future advances for these products.  Frank led the definition of the first Intel Optane products.  Frank has authored or co-authored more than 30 published papers on topics related to networking, storage, and I/O innovation. He holds more than 30 U.S. patents.  Frank received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia, and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland.

Jim Handy, Gen'l Director, Objective Analysis

Jim Handy of Objective Analysis has over 35 years in the electronics industry including 20 years as a leading semiconductor and SSD industry analyst. Early in his career he held marketing and design positions at leading semiconductor suppliers including Intel, National Semiconductor, and Infineon. A frequent presenter at trade shows, Mr. Handy is known for his technical depth, accurate forecasts, widespread industry presence and volume of publication. He has written hundreds of market reports, articles for trade journals, and white papers, and is frequently interviewed and quoted in the electronics trade press and other media.

Eden Kim, Chief Executive Officer, Calypso Systems Inc.

Eden Kim is the CEO of Calypso Systems, Inc. - a leading designer and manufacturer of test software and platforms for high performance storage products. Calypso is also the developer of the TestMyWorkload.com website for free IO Capture and Analysis of Real World Workloads. Mr. Kim is also chair of the SNIA SSSI TechDev Committee, chair of the SNIA Solid State Storage Technical Work Group and a member of the SNIA SSSI Governing Board. Mr. Kim has been presenting at industry trade shows in the US, China, Taiwan and Japanese markets to introduce Real World Storage Workload Capture, Analysis and Test.

Yue Li, Co-Founder, MemVerge

Yue is one of the co-founders of MemVerge, a startup that builds the next generation data infrastructure based on persistent memories. Currently, he is developing the core technologies for the company together with his colleagues. Before founding MemVerge, he was a senior postdoctoral fellow at California Institute of Technology, working on both theoretical and experimental aspects of algorithms for non-volatile memories. Yue received Ph. D in computer science from Texas A&M University in 2014.

Millind Mittal, Sr, Director of Architecture, Xilinx

Mr. Mittal has 20+ years of technical and business leadership experience in the semiconductor industry. He has led and participated in multiple instruction set architecture definition initiatives for Intel processors. He founded start-ups in the areas of networking and storage. At Xilinx he focuses on data center technologies within the FPGA architecture group. He formulated initial direction for a standardized Cache Coherent Interconnect between the hosts and accelerators (CCIX) and is currently chairman of the Technical steering committee for CCIX. He also is the chief architect for realization of CCIX capability in Xilinx products and for enabling the solutions benefitting from the CCIX technology. He is recipient of more than 120 patents.

 

Jim Pappas, Vice Chair, SNIA Board of Directors; Co-Chair; Director of Technology Initiatives, Data Center Group, Intel Corporation

Jim Pappas is the Director of Technology Initiatives in Intel’s Data Center Group. In this role, Jim is responsible to establish broad industry ecosystems that comply with new technologies in the areas of Enterprise I/O, Energy Efficient Computing, and Solid State Storage. Jim has founded, or served on several organizations in these areas including: PCI Special Interest Group, InfiniBand Trade Association, Open Fabrics Alliance, The Green Grid, and several emerging initiatives in his newest focus area of Solid State Storage. Jim has previously been the Director of Technology Initiatives in Intel’s Desktop Products Group, and successfully led technologies such as AGP Graphics, DVD, IEEE 1394, Instantly Available PC, PCI, USB, and other advanced technologies for the Desktop PC. Jim has 30 years of experience in the computer industry. He has been granted eight U.S. patents in the areas of computer graphics and microprocessor technologies. He has spoken at major industry events including the Intel Developer’s Forum (IDF), WinHEC, Storage Networking World, PC Strategy, Microprocessor Forum, Consumer Electronics Show, Server I/O and the Applied Computing Conference. He holds a B.S.E.E. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts.

Rob Peglar, Member, SNIA Board of Directors; President, Advanced Computation and Storage LLC

Robert Peglar is currently the President of Advanced Computation and Storage LLC, after a distinguished 40-year career serving the compute and storage technology industries, spanning six companies. His most recent post was Senior Vice President and CTO of Formulus Black, leading development efforts in next-generation software for persistent in-memory computing. Before that, he was Vice President of Advanced Storage at Micron Technology, where he led efforts in advanced storage systems strategy, led the CTO function and executive-level planning with key customers and partners worldwide for Micron’s Storage Business Unit, and defined future storage portfolio offerings. Mr. Peglar serves on the Board of Directors of the SNIA, is the former co-chair of the SNIA Analytics and Big Data Committee and the SNIA Tutorials, and is the former director of the SNIA Solid State Storage Initiative. He also serves as an advisor to the Flash Memory Summit. Mr. Peglar has extensive experience in persistent memory architecture, data management and analysis, high-performance computing, nonvolatile systems, distributed cluster architectures, filesystems, I/O performance optimization, cloud storage, replication and archiving strategy, networking protocols, and storage virtualization. He is a sought-after keynote speaker and panelist at leading storage and computing-related seminars and conferences worldwide. Mr. Peglar is a four-time EMC Elect honoree, 2014-2017. He was also one of 25 senior executives worldwide selected for the CRN Storage Superstars Award in 2010.

Adam Roberts, Fellow, Western Digital

Adam Roberts is an Engineering Fellow within Western Digital’s CTO Group. He has Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering Degrees from North Carolina State University. Starting with a 6 year career in Pharmaceutical Engineering, Adam went on to hold various development and strategy positions in the Enterprise Server and Storage Industry for the past 18 years. He was the Head Engineer for IBM’s System x RAID and Storage Group followed by 7 years as IBM’s Chief Strategist for System x Flash Solutions before joining SanDisk/Western Digital for the last 4 years. Adam has approximately 200 patents and IP publications issued or pending.

Andy Rudoff, Member, SNIA NVM Programming Technical Work Group and Persistent Memory SW Architect, Intel Corporation

Andy Rudoff is an Architect in the Datacenter Software Division at Intel Corporation. He has over 25 years experience in operating systems internals, file systems, and networking. Andy is co-author of the popular Unix Network Programming book. His recent work focuses on Non-Volatile Memory Programming models and algorithms for using Persistent Memory.

Danny Sabour, Vice President, Avalanche Technology

Danny Sabour is the VP of Marketing at Avalanche Technology. He has held various management and executive positions in companies such as Intel, Spansion and Cypress Semiconductor. At Avalanche he drives the future technology roadmap, development and Memory architectures with the next generation of standalone and embedded MRAM. Mr Sabour has over 30 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. His expertise spans system-on-chip, flash storage, Non-volatile memories , RAID disk controller arrays and unique controller designs to get the most out of memory devices. Mr. Sabour holds a M.Sc. in Computer Science and Electronic Engineering from University College London.

Amigo Tsutsui, Senior Business Producer, Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corp

Amigo has worked in the system development of disk and memory storage over 20 years in Sony. He did the writing of ISSCC 2011 as second paper of Sony ReRAM development. Now he has been leading Sony ReRAM project.
