Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF)
With more than 4,000 active participants representing 44 countries and nearly 200 organizations, the Distributed Management Task Force, Inc. (DMTF) is the industry organization leading the development of management standards and the promotion of interoperability for enterprise and Internet environments.
DMTF standards provide common management infrastructure components for instrumentation, control and communication in a platform-independent and technology neutral way. DMTF standards include the Common Information Model (CIM), communication/control protocols like Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) and Web Services for Management (WS-Management), and the Systems Management Architecture for Server Hardware (SMASH) initiative.
SNIA and DMTF
The purpose of the alliance between SNIA and DMTF is to provide a channel for the DMTF to receive requirements and design input and standards review feedback from SNIA. Similarly, it provides a channel for SNIA to receive requirements and design input and standards review feedback from the DMTF.
The DMTF is relying on SNIA to supply storage management models for the continued development of CIM. This includes the management of, but is not limited to, Storage Arrays, File Systems including Network Attached Storage (NAS), iSCSI, Fibre Channel Fabrics, Host based storage and Information Lifecycle Management (ILM).
SNIA, DMTF and NVM Express
SNIA, the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF), and the NVM Express organizations have formed a new alliance to coordinate standards for managing solid state drive (SSD) storage devices. This alliance brings together multiple standards for managing the issue of scale-out management of SSDs to help improve the interoperable management of information technologies to enable a holistic management experience.
