Manufacturing USA institutes convene business competitors, academic institutions, and other stakeholders to test applications of new technology, create new products, reduce cost and risk, and enable the manufacturing workforce with the skills of the future. The Manufacturing USA network is operated by the interagency Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office, which is headquartered in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), in the Department of Commerce. The office operates in partnership with the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, NASA, the National Science Foundation, and the Departments of Education, Agriculture, Health and Human Services (HHS), and Labor.

Earlier this week, we hosted the 2024 Manufacturing USA Network Meeting which brought together representatives from the 17 Manufacturing USA institutes and their sponsoring agencies, federal partners, and keynote speakers: Representative Haley Stevens and OSTP Deputy Director Justina Gallegos. Convening annually is a key opportunity to celebrate achievements, learn from each other, and collaborate on future plans. We are grateful for the institutes and agencies’ participation in the meeting and their work delivering on the mission of Manufacturing USA, created by Congress 10 years ago. We are inviting organizations from the advanced manufacturing and integrated photonics industry to submit proposals for AIM Photonics' Government Directed Project: BIOlogical, Integrated, Novel, Silicon Photonics for Efficient Characterization and Testing (BIO INSPECT). America Makes' Education and Workforce Development Director Josh Cramer recently wrote an article for IndustryWeek that discusses how generating a manufacturing resurgence in the U.S. requires tackling the workforce need with a multifaceted approach.
