#DidYouKnow that the maritime industry contributes to around 3% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions caused by human activity? This is why countries need to collaborate to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through international #standards. At Singapore Maritime Week (SMW), we heard from Sergio Mujica, Secretary-General at ISO - International Organization for Standardization during his engagement with Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport, Singapore and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Singapore, as well as his keynote on how this works: 1) Standards act a bridge by providing businesses with industry best practices to achieve #sustainability goals and compliance, with accountability and transparency. 2) For businesses transitioning to alternative fuels, standards can steer them towards efficient environmental practices more seamlessly. 3) National Standards Bodies such as Enterprise Singapore, through the Singapore Standards Council, are developing and elevating national standards to help maritime companies meet global needs. Our standards partners Dennis Ho and Sanjay Verma also shared how standards can enhance processes such as electronic documentation, as well as the safe use of alternative fuels. Thank you to all speakers for their insights. Together, we can build a greener and more resilient maritime industry.
