What's a "standard"? How much do you need to know about it when there is legislation or rulemaking that uses that word? The Council to Secure the Digital Economy has released a short primer on what is a technical standard, what is conformity assessment, and how they are used in industry for interoperability, safety and more. Check out the CSDE Primer on Technology Standards and Specifications on the home page at CSDE.org, or at the link below.

Assertion: "SRv6 is not just a protocol; it's a voyage into the future of networking. Each segment is a step towards innovation, guiding data with precision and intelligence. Embrace SRv6, for it carves the path to unprecedented connectivity." Discuss... agree or disagree? (disclaimer: this post was written as personal note (=no affiliations) with intent to spark controverse and technical discussions)

I would like to share a new working paper on the measurement of companies' impact and success in 3GPP standards development. It is becoming increasingly popular to use the "approval" of companies' technical contributions (tdoc) to 3GPP as an indicator of companies' success or technological leadership. Using a comprehensive data analysis and a detailed case study, I show that this use of tdoc status information is often incorrect. I suggest other interpretations of the ‘status’ of companies’ contributions to 3GPP; and explore alternative methodologies for measuring companies’ impact in 3GPP. You can access the paper under the following link (and you may take a moment to explore our website): https://lnkd.in/dYc_Hz8W

Texas A&M Internet2 Technology Evaluation Center (ITEC) is at IWCE 2024 in Orlando, FL this week! Walt Magnussen and Sridhar Kowdley of U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science & Technology Directorate discussed Bringing Mission Critcal Services (PTT, data, video) out of the Silo. Mission Critical services such as voice (MCPTT), data and video have been defined by the 3GPP international standards body to be interoperable but to date there are few if any implementations of this architecture in the United States. Today service provider solutions and vendor's applications are implemented in silos that take away functionality, reliability and security. The Department of Homeland Security has initiated a program that will encourage the implementation of interoperability solutions that will prove to be more cost effective, reliable and functional. These 3GPP solutions are designed to support not only PTT but video and mission critical data as well. These solutions are being implemented today in Europe across diverse service providers in 16 collaborating countries in a project called Broadnet. The DHS is leveraging the EU project to better understand what the state of the possible is. This effort is also being embraced by leading service providers and equipment manufacturers in the United States. This session will discuss the level of standardization of MCX services, how inter-service provider prioritization could function, what is the state of the art today and what is needed to push forward. #iwce2024 #missioncriticalservices Texas A&M University

#IGF2023: When people are talking about internet fragmentation, we can either form a basket that we can label as fragmentation of the #internet user experience, fragmentation of internet governance and fragmentation of the technical Wim Degezelle Consultant Internet Governance and Policy Framework.
