Technology has become an inherent part of our lives. Especially now, in this uncertain times, digital solutions actively shape the way we work, learn and interact with one another on a daily basis. Numerous studies show that girls do better at maths and science in the first years of school education, but it changes when they reach adolescence. How come? To turn this around, we ought to show to the girls that science is not a boys-only territory; that being into tech is cool and that a passion for STEM doesn't take away from their feminity. More women in the ICT sector is a win-win situation for everyone. It's good for business growth, women fulfilment and economic stability. But to bring more female talent into the tech world, we have to start reaching out to women when they are still girls and do the work to convince them of technology's ever-increasing potential. Only then can we ensure their equal participation in actively creating the future.

Today is a solemn reminder that we, as a global community, must work tirelessly to create a world where every woman and girl can thrive free from the shadows of #FemaleGenitalMutilation. Our role goes beyond borders, transcending cultures and embracing the responsibility to foster change. This joint submission is a response to the Global Digital Compact (GDC) consultation process and its expected outcome to outline shared principles for an open, free and secure digital future for all, with an expectation of having a Compact that has an intersectional gender perspective that takes into account the needs of women and girls, in all their diversity. This submission is one of the outcomes from a Global Digital Compact consultation that was held during the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) in New York on 14 March 2023 under the organisation of the Association for Progressive Communications and UNFPA. The consultation included the participation of organisations such as Access Now, Alliance for Universal Digital Rights, Amaranta NGO, Amnesty Tech, Body and Data, CEJIL, Digital Rights Foundation, Foundation for Media Alternatives, Global Digital Inclusion Partnership, KICTANet, Multitudes, Numun Fund, Point of View, Resurj, SANNOY, WO=MEN, Women at the Table and WOUGNET, among others.
