Participation Participation in the workshop is open to ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic Institutions and to any individual from a country that is a member of ITU who wish to contribute to the work. Existing open radio access network (O-RAN) solutions struggle to perform effective control loops at multiple time scales. To address this, we propose an O-RAN-compliant framework designed to effectively allocate radio resources to multiple ultra-reliable low latency communication (uRLLC) services at different time scales. Leveraging stochastic network calculus (SNC) in near-real-time control loops, our framework goes beyond traditional approaches like queueing theory to ensure low violation probabilities for packet transmission delays. With a real-time control loop, it can dynamically adapt guaranteed radio resources based on detected traffic anomalies. The first O-RAN-compliant solution benefiting from SNC technology, our framework boasts a 10× lower average violation probability compared to existing solutions. The work is a collaboration with i2CAT and Universidad de Granada. 🎯 Multi-Functional RIS-Aided Wireless Communications IEEE Internet of Things Journal, Early Access, 2023 In this paper, we propose a multi-functional reconfigurable intelligent surface (MF-RIS) to address the half-space coverage and double-fading attenuation issues faced by existing RISs. By simultaneously reflecting, refracting, and amplifying the incident signal, the proposed MF-RIS is capable of realizing full-space coverage with the mitigated signal degradation. The operation principle of the MF-RIS is first provided, and then an efficient beamforming scheme is proposed for MF-RIS-aided wireless communications. Simulation results show that, through combining multiple functions on one surface, the MF-RIS achieves significant throughput improvement over existing RISs.
