This week, Woodside joined the Australia delegation hosted by Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) at the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition in Rotterdam. During the Summit, members of our New Energy team had the opportunity to engage with customers and peers from across the hydrogen industry, share perspectives and gain new insights. Our EVP of New Energy Shaun Gregory also joined a panel discussion on hydrogen demand and offtake agreements where he highlighted our global new energy portfolio and the importance of working across sectors – public and private – to develop the industry and meet demand. Thank you to the Sustainable Energy Council for hosting.

Shiva McMahon, our Executive Vice President International Operations acknowledges IDAHOBIT day. Otherwise known as International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia, IDAHOBIT is held every year on 17 May. This day marks the anniversary of when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from its classification of mental disorders in 1990. As the executive sponsor of Woodside’s LGBTQIA+ employee impact group, VIBE, Shiva recognises barriers and challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community and encourages Woodsiders to show respect and embrace inclusion. The 300 km long Ningaloo Reef located off the coast of Exmouth in Western Australia is the largest fringing coral reef on the west coast of any continent. With shallow lagoons and deeper waters offshore, the reef is home to a variety of marine life and diverse habitats. Woodside's continued investment in science allows us to proudly collaborate and partner with some of the world’s leading experts and research organisations to understand the environments in which we operate and inform decision-making. To increase the ecological understanding of the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area’s deep and shallow reefs and shark and turtle populations, Woodside and CSIRO have partnered on the Ningaloo Outlook Marine Research Partnership. Over A$12million has been invested in scientific research through Ningaloo Outlook (Phase 1 and 2) to further develop new knowledge about the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area. The initial Phase 1 was in partnership with BHP, now part of the merged Woodside Energy. Our Executive Vice President Marketing & Trading Mark Abbotsford hosted an event at the WA Museum Boola Bardip to thank our Western Australian domestic gas customers, partners and stakeholders in Perth last night. Woodside is celebrating 40 years of supplying gas in Western Australia this year. Woodside is proud to reliably supply 19% of local gas needs in Western Australia and this event was a great opportunity to toast the enduring relationships we have with our local customers and thank them for trusting us in providing their gas and energy requirements both today and into the future. #naturalgas #WesternAustralia #Perth

We welcome the passing of legislation that supports the future development of Western Australia’s future Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) industry. The legislative changes aim to enable transport and storage of greenhouse gas in WA, and encourage greenhouse gas storage projects including the Angel CCS project, a proposed large-scale, multi-user CCS Hub near Karratha. Woodside sees CCS as a strategic opportunity for Australia, and one of the key methods to abate large-scale industrial emissions. The International Energy Agency (IEA) and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have both identified CCS as an important emissions reduction technology in achieving net zero by 2050 or sooner. We look forward to working with the WA Government as they develop the supporting regulations and guidance so CCS projects in WA can be operationalised.

Woodside Energy welcomes the clear statements in the Australian Government’s Future Gas Strategy on the role of gas in providing energy to heat and cool homes, keep lights on and support industry and domestic manufacturing. We also welcome the accompanying remarks from the Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Madeleine King. The Future Gas Strategy makes it clear that gas is needed to 2050 and beyond, and that future investment is required for our energy system to be reliable and reach net zero. The Strategy also highlights the important role Australian LNG plays for our key trading partners as part of their energy and decarbonisation plans. In order to protect Australian jobs, investment and energy security, we need a consistent and coherent policy framework for gas that provides timely consideration of proposals, stable tax and fiscal settings and is not vulnerable to manipulation by activist groups whose only goal is to prevent projects from proceeding. We look forward to working with the Federal Government and Opposition on the next level of detail under the Strategy so that we can urgently implement the policy settings to ensure all Australians benefit from our natural resources.
