🌟 Let's talk about Open Source and AI! 🤖 Recently, I attended the Open Source Summit in Seattle (Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF)), where I got the chance to hang out with big names like Mer Joyce involved in defining Open Source AI definition (Open Source Initiative (OSI)), Tim Bonnemann -Community lead for Open Source Science Initiative (OSSci), and Ofer Hermoni, Ph.D. Chairperson for LF AI & Data Foundation Generative AI Commons. During our conversations, I learned about three incredible projects aimed at defining and organizing Open Source in AI. Common Corpus is a public domain dataset for training LLMs. It offers researchers a powerful tool to develop smaller and more efficient LLMs, but it should not be abused as a tool to promote public policies that expand the reach of copyright law.

Our goal is to ensure that the development and use of Open Source software is at best facilitated and at worst not obstructed by any aspect of the standards development process, the resulting harmonized standards, and the access and IPR terms of those standards.

The European Commission recently published a public draft of the standards request associated with the Cyber Resilience Act. For the first time, there is an express requirement to respect the needs of Open Source developers and users.
