  • Do you know what happened on this day 250 years ago?   In 1774, a ship’s surgeon in the British Royal Navy, James Lind, began what is widely considered to be the first randomised clinical trial. Since 2012, the total number of clinical trials starting every year in the UK averages at 631.   Core to our mission is helping patients prevail over serious diseases. This requires deep scientific expertise alongside cutting-edge capabilities and discovery platforms. Our clinical trials span several therapy areas, including: ◾ Oncology ◾ Cardiovascular diseases ◾ Haematology ◾ Immunology ◾ Neuroscience   Learn more about our clinical trial processes in the UK 👉 https://lnkd.in/eT7iJiBf   #BMSUK #ClinicalTrials #ClinicalTrialsDay

  • This Sunday we celebrate #WorldIBDDay, a day dedicated to uniting and supporting people worldwide in their fight against Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (UC), all more commonly known as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). We believe it is important to stand in solidarity with those impacted by IBD and recognise the impact it has, beyond the physical symptoms. More than six million people worldwide live with a type of IBD, but general knowledge of symptoms within the population remains limited. Living with IBD can come with societal stigma which can impact a person’s mental well-being, work, relationships and education. This is why we are sharing some myth-busting facts about common IBD misconceptions below! At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are committed to supporting all those living with IBD, helping address address unmet needs and empowering the community and their loved ones. • Did you know that menopausal workers are the fastest growing workplace demographic according to The Menopause Friendly Accreditation? But, as reported by the BBC, many workers are left with no choice but to leave their job when there are no support systems in place.   That’s why we’re proud to be recognised as leading the way in offering our colleagues menopause-specific benefits in such an important discussion.   Additionally, our team of menopause advocates are constantly exploring ways we can collectively best support colleagues to bring their authentic selves to work each day, knowing they will be supported by informed peers within an inclusive culture. This May, we celebrate Skin Cancer Awareness Month by raising awareness of all stages of melanoma. Melanoma skin cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the UK, with approximately 16,744 people being diagnosed with melanoma each year. Approximately 10% of cases in the UK are diagnosed at stage III or IV melanoma. At Bristol Myers Squibb, we have created a digital Health Hub in collaboration with healthcare professionals and melanoma charities. This virtual platform provides people living with melanoma with accessible information to support conversations with their healthcare teams when managing their condition. Read this article to hear Michelle Norton, skin cancer clinical nurse specialist at Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff, share her perspectives on how this Health Hub has helped her support her patients with advanced melanoma - https://bit.ly/3Wp2wUh #BMSUK #Oncology

  • “Until I actually got diagnosed with it, I used to think to myself, I'll never get cancer.” The ‘1,000 voices, not 1’ report from our research, suggests that drivers of diagnostic delays could include barriers to healthcare-seeking behaviour and overall awareness of cancer and associated symptoms. We found that a person’s background or situation is a significant determinant of their experience of cancer. We know that getting an earlier cancer diagnosis can lead to improved prognosis. So, there is no time to wait. Understanding and addressing the true causes of inequality in cancer experiences is crucial. Belinda shares her experience here. Last week, we took time to recognise #EarthDay and celebrated over five days at our UK and Ireland sites. We arranged several activities and talks with prominent sustainability specialists, including: 🌍 Pat Kane hosted a session on sustainable product development and its role in assisting SMEs with sustainability initiatives. 🗑️ Our colleagues participated in a company-organised litter pick in the area surrounding our Uxbridge office. 🥗 Conor Spacey, Culinary Director, FoodSpace, delivered a live presentation showcasing how we can adopt a ‘zero-waste’ lifestyle and  provided a plant-based food offering. 🐞 We created a new outdoor wellbeing area designed to encourage both plant and insect biodiversity. Whilst these activities were arranged to recognise Earth Day, our focus on sustainability and a green footprint in the UK and Ireland is at the forefront of everything we do throughout the year. Our Go Green Team, a cross-site working group, ensures that sustainability remains top of the agenda and is making positive steps, daily, to help us achieve our ambition. • Last week, our Uxbridge office had a very special visit from the Paws in Work, thanks to our fantastic Mental Health Allies! Our colleagues took a well-earned break from their desks to cuddle and play with a litter of six lovely Cavapoos. Mental health awareness is crucial, especially at work. Puppy therapy can provide a unique way to promote emotional well-being, boost mood, and reduce stress. #BMSUK #MentalHealthMatters #PuppyTherapy #WellbeingatWork
