ICANN Request for Proposal: IMRS Cluster (Germany) Colocation

9 October 2023

Today, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers organization (ICANN org) issued a request for proposal (RFP) to identify one or more vendors to provide a secure colocation space in the Frankfurt, Germany metropolitan area for one new ICANN Managed Root Server (IMRS) cluster.

As part of the service provided to the Internet community, ICANN operates one of the 13 root servers of the Internet, the IMRS, which is, also, known as L.ROOT-SERVERS.NET. Installing the cluster will result in increased root server capacity for the European region and improve the resiliency of not only the IMRS, but also the entire Root Server System.

Through the issuance of this RFP, ICANN org solicits proposals from qualified suppliers for the provision of the services. For a complete overview of this RFP, including the timeline, please read the Project Overview.

Indications of interest should be emailed to IMRS.Cluster.Germany.Colo-RFP@icann.org and provide the following information:

  • Company name
  • Contact person name
  • Contact person e-mail address

Proposals should be electronically submitted using ICANN's sourcing tool by 23:59 UTC on 3 November 2023. Access to this tool may be requested via the same e-mail.

About ICANN

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
