DENIC Services is the sole Designated Data Escrow Agent for ICANN-accredited Registrars, Approved Data Escrow Agent for gTLD Registries and offers its Registry Data Escrow Service also for ccTLDs.
Registrars and Registries can choose which of our two infrastructures their deposits should be stored. We protect data in the European Union in accordance with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the German Federal Data Protection Act for those under the GDPR regime and in the United States for others that must respect other legislation and data privacy regulation. Both infrastructures deliver the same kind of security and safety and run accordingly to the same service level agreements provided by ICANN.

Designated Data Escrow Agent for Registrars
ICANN selects DENIC Services as its sole Designated Registrar Data Escrow Agent (DEA) for registrars worldwide. You can find the DENIC Services press release HERE. The ICANN publication can be found HERE.
DENIC Services is the only provider worldwide who, according to an agreement with ICANN, is authorized to offer registrars of generic top-level domains the mandatory backup of their business data (Registrar Data Escrow, RDE) free of charge. As an ICANN-accredited Registrar, you must faithfully store the domain data you manage in a secure environment per ICANN regulations. This is to ensure the reliable management of the namespace. For more information, see Section 3.6 “Data Escrow” of the ICANN Registrar Accreditation Treaty (Registrar Accreditation Agreement).

Approved Data Escrow Agent for Registries
As the operator of a gTLD Registry, you are required to provide a daily backup of the registration data of domains you manage and to store it with a reliable trustee.
Registry Data Escrow (RyDE) guarantees that a copy of the stored gTLD registration data is kept securely and protected by an independent third party. For more information, see Specification 2 “Requirements for Data Escrow” in the ICANN contract for accreditation of Registries (ICANN Registry Agreement).
