FRIDAY OR ANOTHER DAY
Synopsis
A glorious CinemaScope film, lusciously shot, starring Philippe Nohan as an 18th century Comédie Française actor shipwrecked on an uninhabited island. Luckily he manages to salvage supplies, including his wigs, costumes and props. He stages plays for the ship's dog and the local goats, he dreams of past loves, the days drift by. A native tribe arrives. At first he hides, but on their second visit he intervenes when a man's life is threatened. So, Nohan finds his 'Friday'. Adapted from a novel by Michel Tournier, Yvan Le Moine's haunting feature deftly portrays the developing relationship between the 'wild' and the 'cultivated' man, as one becomes more at home on his desert island and the other learns of a greater world outside.
