Verizon on Tuesday announced the launch of a new segment combining its fleet management, mobile workforce software and connected vehicle services into one unit.

The carrier said Verizon Connect would integrate its Verizon Telematics division with the operations from two companies acquired in 2016: vehicle tracking company Fleetmatics and mobile workforce management firm Telogis.

The new division, the company said, would create a "one-stop approach" for connected vehicle software solutions and allow its customers to be informed about the location, safety, productivity and efficiency of vehicles and workers alike.

Andrés Irlando, the CEO of the segment, said its systems could provide solutions to a wide range of problems, from curbing vehicle emissions to incentivizing safe driving to maintaining food safety.

"One of the things we’re most proud of at Verizon Connect is the potential our current and future technologies have for massive societal impact, " Irlando said in a statement.
