A new exhibit at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, “Going Places: A History of Silicon Valley” [www.computerhistory.org], combines a spectacular five-screen panoramic version of Google Earth with content from David Laws’ “Silicon Valley Roots & Shoots” mobile app to create a virtual tour of significant historic technology sites.

The HP Garage, the Google Garage, the Apple Garage, the Facebook House are among 20 preselected locations that visitors can fly to on the Liquid Galaxy hi-resolution “chamber of monitors” display. Each is accompanied by a brief audio description based on text from the app. The photo shows the view of Rooster T Feathers comedy club in Sunnyvale that, as Andy Capp’s Tavern, in 1972 hosted the beta site for the smash hit arcade game Pong.
