Welcome to the official home of Fortran Standards
WG5 completes processing Fortran 2003 and the TR
WG5 met jointly with J3 in Las Vegas, May 2-7, and completed the preparation of the Draft International Standard (DIS) for Fortran 2003, which is available in pdf and ps formats, and the Draft Technical Report (DTR) for Enhanced Module Facilities, which is available in pdf and ps formats. They have both been sent to SC22 for formal 2-month country ballots. If they pass their ballots, they will be published as they are now, apart from any extremely minor corrections such as formatting errors or typos.
Documents N1599 and N1603 detail the responses to the ballot comments on Fortran 2003 and the TR, respectively. All the technical changes were minor and the extent of editorial changes was not extensive.

The J3 version of the DIS, which is identical except for the title page and the headers and footers, is available in ps, pdf, text, or source (latex) formats.
WG5 adopted the timetable for the next revision given in N1590. Its aim is for the features of a minor revision to be chosen in February 2006 and for the revised standard to be published in 2009. The new features will be classified according to the 8-point scale in N1594, since it was felt that terms such as 'minor', 'significant' and 'large' were too vague.
J3 resumed its processing of interpretations, deferred while work on the new standard was in progress, and agreed drafts for the next stage (formal letter ballot by J3) for almost all those outstanding.
For the resolutions of the meeting, see N1597. It was attended by the convenor and 19 members, representing 5 member bodies.

1596 The future of Part 3 (Nagle)
1597 Resolutions of the Las Vegas 2004 meeting (Muxworthy)
1599 Response to the Final CD ballot (Maine)
1600 Index for documents 1551-1600
1601 Draft International Standard for Fortran 2003 (Maine)
1602 Draft TR on Enhanced Module Facilities (Snyder)
1603 Response to the PDTR ballot
Both Fortran 2003 and the TR pass their ballots
The FCD (Final Committee Draft) for Fortran 2003 standard has passed its ballot. 7 countries voted "yes", 3 voted "yes, with comments", none voted "no", 2 abstained, and 13 did not vote. Full details of the voting and the comments are in N1583.
The PDTR (Preliminary Draft Technical Report) for extended module facilities has also passed its ballot, with very similar voting figures, 7-2-0-2-13. Full details of the voting and the comments are in N1587.
WG5 is now charged with responding to the comments and preparing a DIS (Draft International Standard) for Fortran 2003 and a DTR (Draft Technical Report) for extended module facilities. The comments are sufficiently minor that it should be possible to do all this during the May meeting (next item). Final ballots for these will take place soon afterwards and hopefully they will both be published this year.
Joint meeting of WG5 and J3, Las Vegas, May 2-7
WG5 currently has two major projects allocated to it by SC22:
In addition, WG5 is responsible for two other published Standards which have not yet entered a formal maintenance and/or revision phase and two Technical Reports whose latest revisions are ready for publication:
2005 (Joint meeting with J3) | 9 to 13 May | Delft, Netherlands |
2006 (Joint meeting with J3) | Early February | Las Vegas, USA |
