GLAM – Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums

Our GLAM colleagues engage with many similar issues to those of archivists and recordkeepers and we will draw on these experiences in the course of the Conference. Conference sessions will probe the wider strategies and successes across the GLAM sector including valuing archival collections – large and small, custodial issues, garnering public support and interest in our collections and activities, the politics of identity for asylum seekers, GLAM programmes within non-GLAM organisations, trends in accessioning, deaccessioning and its impact, GLAM professional identity or identities? Nor has GLAM forsaken the recordkeeping frontier with sessions devoted to considering the spectacular recordkeeping failures often associated with company collapses.

Australian Society of Archivists
The Australian Society of Archivists Inc. (ASA) is the peak professional body for archivists in Australia. It was formed in 1975 in response to the growing number of archivists in Australia and to the increasing demand for archival skills.

The Australian Society of Archivists aims to:

• promote a professional identity amongst archivists
• promote the keeping care and use of archives and encourage research and development in all areas of archival practice
• establish and maintain standards of archival practice and professional conduct amongst archivists, including standards of archival qualifications and professional training
• encourage the responsible use of archives including cooperating with other organisations and groups with common interests and concerns
• encourage communication and cooperation amongst archivists, their institutions and the users of archives publish and disseminate information relevant to the archival profession

The Society hosts a conference each year. Proceedings of some previous conferences are accessible via the Society's web site at www.archivists.org.au
