About BeUnited

28 August, 2001

This is the newly updated website of BeUnited, an initiative led by Ryan Abrams, Helmar Rudolph, Donovan Schultheis and John Tegen, and supported by many others, but first and foremost "the team".

This website is aimed at keeping you in touch with the latest developments around BeOS, its marketing and communication within the user/developer communities.

As you will have read on the other pages, it is our goal to obtain a licence from Palm, Inc. to modify, extend and market the BeOS, and try to succeed where Be, Inc., the original inventor and developer of the BeOS has failed.

"BeUnited is a non-profit organization, and we plan to keep it that way - even in the case of being awarded a BeOS licence by Palm, Inc.. All profits from this endeavour will be channeled back into BeOS development.

We love BeOS and the community of friends that has grown around it. If you are new to BeOS, we have a feeling that you'll quickly find it hard to leave. If you have any questions or would like to support us in any way, we'd love to hear from you. Please click on the link at the top of the page that says 'Contact Us'.

A favour...
It's easy to fall into the trap of comparing BeOS to Linux, Windows, MacOS or any other OS for that matter. Each OS has its advantages and shortcomings. We at BeUnited believe that we can only succeed if we stop comparing and instead focus on our own strengths and opportunities - on the future rather than the past. So whereas you may feel compelled to vent your views on the chances of success of our endeavour, you are essentially wasting your time, because we do what we do not because of Linux, Windows or anybody else. We do it because of the BeOS and because we believe not only in its potential, but also because what it stands for.

You won't find us wasting precious time arguing over whose OS is best - we have better things to do. Our goal is to provide the best BeOS possible. Any argumentation or zealotry wastes energy that could be better spent providing users with the evidence needed to choose - or not choose - BeOS for their computing needs. It is your choice to agree or not, but we've already made up our minds about what we feel is the best potential technology. Now we are busy matching it with the best marketing and communications.
