  • DICT warns public vs NCAP cyber attack The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) alerts the public against a cyber attack claiming that victims violated the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) and directing them to settle the alleged violation through a website link. The public should disregard the said text message, as NCAP enforcement has been suspended since 2022 per the Metro Manila Development Authority. To avoid becoming a victim of cyber attacks and other online scams, the public is advised to undertake the following measures: 1. Ignore suspicious and malicious text messages. 2. Check the sender of the text message and verify the information received by referring to the official social media accounts and websites of the government. 3. Do not click the website links from suspicious text messages as this will prevent you from sending sensitive information. 4. Enable multi-factor authentication to provide an additional layer of security for your accounts. To report cyber attacks and other online scams, the public is encouraged to call 1326, the Inter-Agency Response Center hotline being handled by the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, an attached agency of the DICT. #

  • Today marks a major milestone for a digitally connected Philippines as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., together with DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, led the launch of the National Fiber Backbone (NFB) Phase 1 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Pasay City. The NFB, a vital component of the DICT’s National Broadband Plan, seeks to improve internet speed and affordability nationwide. Once completed in 2026, 28,000 km of government-owned fiber will link the islands of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. For Phase 1, the NFB will cover 1,245 km from Laoag, Ilocos Norte, to Roces, Quezon City, providing improved connectivity to numerous communities. In his speech, President Marcos emphasized how this initiative brings Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) into the digital space, enabling even sari-sari stores to reach beyond their local communities and expand their market access. The project also enhances resilience against cyber threats by creating information security zones to protect government data and information assets. Secretary Ivan John Uy highlighted that the National Fiber Backbone Phase 1 signifies more than just laying cables—it represents a monumental leap forward in our journey towards a digitally empowered society. By bringing high-speed internet access to underserved communities and broadening network coverage across regions, this project is leveling the playing field and empowering every Filipino to participate in the digital economy. The National Fiber Backbone's impact on education, healthcare, and economic development will be transformative, fostering innovation and growth across the nation.Today's grand launch of the NFB Phase 1 is a crucial first step towards our shared goal of a more digitally connected and inclusive Bagong Pilipinas.

  • Today in ICT History: On March 29, 1994, Benjamin Tan established the Philippines’ first connection to the Internet at a network center in Makati City. On the 30th anniversary of the Internet in the Philippines, let us look back at the progress that this transformative technology has brought to our lives and has allowed Filipinos to reap the benefits of the digital economy. As we embark on shaping a Bagong Pilipinas, we urge everyone to join us in co-creating a Bayang Digital paved by the Internet, one where we harness connectivity and frontier technologies to enable a citizen-centric government, bridge the digital divide, and empower Filipinos online. • 𝐓𝐔𝐋𝐎𝐘 𝐏𝐎 𝐊𝐀𝐘𝐎 𝐒𝐀 𝐁𝐀𝐘𝐀𝐍𝐆 𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋! #BayangDigital #BagongPilipinas #DICTRegionalRoadshow

  • Last February 26, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 10 proudly launched the Sustainable and Inclusive Digital Landscape for Advancement and Knowledge Program or SIDLAK Program at Sitio Tonggo, Tudela, Misamis Occidental. Led by DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy and Regional Office 10 Director Sittie Alawi, SIDLAK leverages the robust internet infrastructure under the DICT's Free Public Internet Access Program (FPIAP) to power regional targeted training initiatives such as the Localized Accessible Knowledge and Inclusive Platform (LAKIP) and the Leading Advocacy to Marginalized sector through Acquire skills and Gain employment (LAMDAG) programs. LAKIP and LAMDAG beneficiaries will undergo comprehensive skills training, helping them to secure employment opportunities or apply their newfound knowledge to their respective careers. The inaugural recipients of this transformative program are the Tonggo Integrated School and the Subanen Community, situated in Tudela town. As the Bisaya term "SIDLAK" translates to "kinang" in Filipino, the initiative embodies the promise of a brighter and more prosperous future for all Misamisnons, utilizing modern technology as a catalyst for advancement.
