This “hold” on values in this range should expire if draft-ietf-dtn-ipn-update [UPDATE] itself expires. Requests for values lower than this may continue to be processed according to current registry policy. The IESG also requests a notification from IANA if, somehow, continued registry allocations draw near the above limit. *** Background The “CBHE Node Numbers” registry [IANA] is currently undergoing restructuring via a DTN working group document, draft-ietf-dtn-ipn-update [UPDATE]. The end result of this restructuring is that values greater than or equal to 2^31 will take on new semantic importance and therefore allocating values in this range before this restructuring completes would impede the work in progress.
