About Scope 3
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol, which was convened by the World Resources Institute and World Business Council for Sustainable Development to set standards for measuring emissions, separates them into three categories:
- Scope 1 covers direct emissions from sources owned and controlled by the reporting company.
- Scope 2 encompasses offsite emissions from energy purchased by the reporting company.
- Scope 3 includes indirect emissions produced externally by assets neither owned nor controlled by the reporting company. These include emissions from suppliers in the upstream and downstream supply chains.
