Frontier Research in Aerospace Engineering
Sobre nosotros
This Ph.D. gives a response to the need for specific training and research in the field of Aerospace Engineering. The main objective of the program is to qualify students with a series of technical and scientific competences in the field of aerospace science and technologies. Graduate doctors of the program will be qualified to find innovative and disruptive solutions to high-impact and high-interest problems in the field of aerospace engineering through a combination of experimental, computational, and technological methodologies pertaining to aerospace science and engineering with a marked multidisciplinary, intersectoral and international character. The program is structured in two large areas: Aeronautics and Space Career opportunities for graduates are focused on three areas: a scientific career in universities or national and international research centers; a professional career in the Aerospace R&D sector; and the creation of technology-based companies through patents and/or registered software as direct outcomes of the research.

Today we are honoured to attend the talk of Victor Désangles, our guest and researcher at ONERA - The French Aerospace Lab. His talk is livestreamed https://lnkd.in/eH3xxEYd This talk presents the main studies led at ONERA in the last years aiming at improving our understanding of the Electron Cyclotron Resonance Thrusters (ECRT) operation. ECRTs are emergent technologies of electric propulsion, more specifically plasma propulsion, designed to perform in-orbit trajectory corrections. A large variety of scientific problems are being tackled: the expansion of plasma in the magnetic nozzle, thrust production mechanisms, the coupling of microwave to the plasma and the acceleration of ions and their demagnetisation. 📢 The air collector for our aeroacoustic jet facility has been completed! Numerous factors were taken into account during the design process, including structural resonance, minimizing reflective surfaces, and selecting appropriate materials. This air collector serves as a crucial component of our anechoic chamber, enabling proper dissipation of airflow while ensuring accurate air entrainment. Moreover, the implementation of the separation wall helps decoupling the natural frequencies of the room, preventing the formation of standing waves within the chamber. 👥 Thanks to Giorgio D'Orazi from Aeroelastic and Structural Design Lab for his assistance in constructing the air collector. And, congrats to Luca Franceschelli and Ricardo Moreno Benavides for their hard work! 🔗 Link the to the video: https://lnkd.in/eddqM8wx The work has been supported by the NEXTFLOW project (https://lnkd.in/diXufXuf), funded by European Research Council (ERC), grant n. 949085, under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, and by the JAMAICAM project, Grant No TED2021-130909A-I0, funded by MCIN/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033 and by the “European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR”.
