DFS and ERA a.s.: Cooperation to ensure precise flight tracking in Hamburg DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung is modernising its civil surveillance infrastructure in Germany as part of its MaRS project. A new multilateration system #MLAT is being established in Hamburg, enabling high-precision surveillance of arriving and departing aircraft at Hamburg and Finkenwerder airports. Air situation display right down to runway thresholds: precise and up-to-date. ERA a.s. qualified with its advanced and modern MLAT system in a European tender. The system is now being realised in Hamburg together with DFS engineering experts. We are honoured! DFS has clinched the #ATM Award for its groundbreaking #Future Delivery Model (FDM) in the Greener Skies category at the #Airspace World 2024 event held in Geneva, Switzerland from March 19 to 21, 2024. The FDM, which is based on an advanced cloud infrastructure, serves as a blueprint for sustainable air traffic management (ATM). It has the potential to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions and lays the foundation for more environmentally friendly flight routes. Sustainability monitoring shows that energy consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by 99% compared to the classic "bare metal hosting" solution. Shortlisted in three categories! We are eagerly waiting to see whether one of the #DFS projects might make it to the winners: The #ATMAwards will be presented by @Air Traffic ManagementMagazine and CANSO at Airspace World. In the "Re-imaging ATM Operations" category, DFS and EUROCONTROL submitted the integrated Traffic Flow Management Tool (iFMP), which was set up in #Karlsruhe and #Maastricht as part of #MAKAN. The "#AI-based #ArrivalManager and Validation/ #Certification" #research project made it into the "#DigitalTransformation in ATM" category. And the DFS project "Future ATS #SystemArchitecture - A New Era of #Efficiency and #Sustainability" came out on top in the "#GreenerSkies" category. Two large-scale projects of #DFS to modernise the #navigation #infrastructure in German #airspace have received major #funding from the #EuropeanUnion's #ConnectingEuropeFacility #CEF. The first project will expand Automatic Dependent #Surveillance – Broadcast (#ADS-B) technology for determining aircraft position data. The second project expands performance-based navigation (#PBN), which is increasingly based on #satellitenavigation, at around sixty German #airports and #aerodromes. DFS has been operating #remotetower systems successfully for many years. Air traffic at #Saarbrücken and #Erfurt #Weimar airports has been controlled since 2018 and 2022 respectively from the DFS Remote Tower Control Center in #Leipzig hundreds of kilometres away.
