During the ITU-T SG13 meeting (Virtual, 29 November-10 December 2021), Q2/13 (Next-generation network (NGN) evolution with innovative technologies including software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV)) created a new work item on “Requirements and framework of service function orchestration based on Service Function Chain” (Y.SFO: TD697(WP3/13)). ITU-T Y.SFO aims to provide the scenarios of service function orchestration based on Service Function Chain (SFC), such as based on user requirement, to realize function services deployed and dynamically adjusted on demand and based on resource situation, to realize the resource optimization and load balance of service functions, specifies its general requirements and provide a basic framework. The Y.SFO has some relationship to the following ITU-T Recommendations [ITU-T Y.2012], [ITU-T Y.2324], [ITU-T Y.2501] for its requirements, capabilities, functional architectures and Q.CPN. In addition, Y.SFO also has some relationship to IETF RFC7665 and the ongoing draft “A Framework for Constructing Service Function Chaining Systems Based on Segment Routing” for the encapsulation and generation of Service Function Chain.
