The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a multi-stakeholder group and non-profit organization responsible for the secure operation of the Internet, established the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) in 1999. The policy is between the registrar (or other registration authority in the case of a country-code Top-Level Domain) and its customer (the domain-name holder or registrant).
The UDRP is designed to provide a streamlined process for adjudicating domain name disputes regarding all generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) and some country-code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs).
Canadian domain name disputes over domains that end with .CA are governed by the CIRA Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (CDRP) which is based on the UDRP.
The CDRP applies only to .ca domain name disputes.
