Alerting #EnergyTraders and #EnergyProducers! We are tracking a severe thunderstorm outbreak that is set to impact areas from central and eastern #Texas through #Louisiana to #NewOrleans, moving towards #Alabama and northern #Florida overnight. The storms are brewing in highly energetic and humid air, with CAPE values exceeding 4000 J/kg. 🔹 What to Expect: • In the early phases, supercells may develop between San Antonio and Houston, with the potential for large hail (1.6-3.1 inches) and severe wind gusts. • The supercells are expected to transform into a bow echo, propelling severe winds (over 80 mph) and potential tornadoes toward Louisiana and New Orleans. • Another active cluster in Mississippi and Alabama could influence the storm's intensity and movement. 🎥 Our latest #MetX animation visualizes this event using the HRRR model with detailed 15-minute resolution updates. In real-time, you can see the evolution of supercells, the bow echo, and critical gust lines. The CAPE parameter visualization shows the dynamic energy distribution up to 5000 J/kg. 🌐 Understanding and predicting such weather threats is crucial for businesses and professionals. Ascension Day and weekend weather outlook: sunny and warm days ahead for Europe! The Genoa low, which brought plenty of precipitation to the Alpine region recently, is moving further south-east and a strong high-pressure system can reach Central Europe from the west. This means that there is nothing to stop a dry and warmer public holiday. Only in the Alps there will be denser clouds throughout the day, but isolated light rain showers will be limited to the Alpine ridge and South Tyrol. Some more cumulus clouds will also spread from the BeNeLux states to northern Germany tomorrow, but these will remain flat and harmless. Temperatures will rise everywhere. Highs of 18 to 20 degrees are widely possible from France to Austria and Germany tomorrow. Those spending their public holiday and the long weekend in France will get the most sunshine, with temperatures rising to a pleasant 25 to 28 degrees in the south of France, and up to 30 degrees on the Bay of Biscay, although the risk of thunderstorms will increase significantly there on Sunday. Ascension Day will also be celebrated in Sweden and Norway, but the weather will not improve there until Friday, when the high-pressure from Central Europe can extend far north after the cold front tomorrow. #EURO1k Forecast: Turbulent days on both sides of the Alps, what does this mean for businesses? Here are some quick examples: #Transportation and #Logistics Delays: High winds, heavy precipitation, and potential snowfall at higher altitudes can disrupt road and rail transport. This can lead to delays in logistics and supply chains, impacting businesses that rely on timely deliveries, especially those in the retail and manufacturing sectors. #Agriculture: Heavy rainfall can affect agricultural activities, particularly in northern Italy where significant precipitation is expected. Excessive water can damage crops, affect planting and harvesting schedules, and increase the risk of fungal diseases. #Insurance and #Risk Management: Businesses need to be aware of the increased risk of weather-related damage and ensure that their insurance covers such events. There might be a rise in claims related to wind and water damage during this period, affecting the insurance sector. The list of impacted industries continues. Tourism, energy and utilities, construction but also retail will be affected by the current weather situation. 💡 Here is what's happening: Currently, Europe is under the influence of a low-pressure system in the west of Europe. This leads to moist and warm air being pushed towards the Alps. In the upcoming days the flow situation for the Alps is expected to change due to the low-pressure system expanding further towards the Alps. Already on the weekend the Föhn valleys north of the alps experienced high wind speeds due to the current southerly flow (wind speed at 850hPa is shown in the left panel). With wind gusts reaching up to 80 km/h, the dry Föhn conditions are expected to persist until Thursday. Summer-like temperatures of up to 27°C are possible in the Föhn valleys. Part of the southerly flow is also redirected around the Alps, which is why southern France and Eastern Austria also experience increased wind speeds. Quite typically, at the same time as there is Föhn north of the Alps, also rainfall co-occurs at the southern side of the mountain ridge. Starting today in the evening, heavy precipitation is expected until Friday with peak values of up to 130 mm in 24h in the Piedmont (see right panel color map and grid showing 24h accumulated precipitation); total amounts over those few days are around 200 mm. As a comparison, annual values of precipitation for northern Italy are in the range of 2000-2500 mm per year. With the snow line being at around 2000 m, higher mountains experience fresh snow fall. Due to the local embedded thunderstorms that form, hail showers are also possible. In the next days the Föhn will end with a cold front pushing through the northern Alps and reversing the flow pattern. Reach out to learn how you can protect your business from weather impacts. #Monsoon-like rainfall far ahead of the usual summer monsoon in southern China at the end of March, there have been repeated heavy and widespread storms and vast amounts of rain, especially in southeast China, more than a month before the usual summer monsoon period, which usually starts in May. In the province of Guangdong, just north of Hong Kong, the rainfall has been nothing short of extreme. Over the past 30 days, the region has been drenched with more than 600mm of rain, a staggering 200-400% above the usual amount. Around 500mm of rain has fallen in the last seven days alone, further exacerbating the situation. With Guangdong being China's most densely populated province, housing over 125 million residents, the floods that have submerged entire districts and blocked main roads are causing a significant disruption. The heavy rainfall is expected to persist in the coming days, with a total of 200-300mm, and potentially more, locally, by next week. The primary cause of these heavy thunderstorms and rainfall is the unusually warm, highly humid, and energy-rich air moving northwards from the South China Sea into the country's interior, coupled with significant wind shear. As indicated in the EFI Cape-Shear Index (animation top right), this volatile air mass presents a substantial potential for severe thunderstorm outbreaks and tropical rainfall, posing a significant risk to the region. Our warning index, 'Incessant Rain,' accessible here: https://lnkd.in/ePxybVxz, is a crucial tool in understanding the increased risk potential for southeast China in the coming days. It indicates that the flooding situation will likely worsen, providing valuable information for residents and those involved in disaster management.
