It's crucial to adapt projects to local conditions. A recent ISIF Asia-supported project by Common Room Networks Foundation sought to bring #connectivity to 10 villages in different regions of #Indonesia. An existing School of Community Networking served as a hub and was "built out" to help deliver this connectivity - but in each village, needs, culture and conditions were different. Tembok Village, in Bali Province (pictured) needed backhaul connectivity so a bamboo tower was installed. On the other hand, in Sukadana Village, in West Nusa Tenggara Province, the local shrimp cultivation industry had been conducted by hand previously and they were better served with training on #IoT devices and sensors to better administer their shrimp ponds. In each case, the community network activities were adapted for local needs. Discover more, including the full technical report, on the Foundation site: https://lnkd.in/gEQWBA4u

ISIF Asia grantee Suarise is working to improve #accessibility in Indonesia - check out the pictures of their latest boot camp! More information about the project is available on the Foundation site. https://lnkd.in/g4jk3Aze
Puncak A11y Boocamp Suarise diakhiri dengan event offline bertajuk Digital Accessibility Awareness Day: 10 Case Studies on Transforming Web Accessibility in Indonesia yang digelar beberapa waktu lalu di BSD City Serpong, Banten (20/04). #A11ybootcamp #A11ybotcampSuarise

Every economy faces different challenges when it comes to the uptake of Internet Protocol Version 6 (#IPv6). In #Indonesia the challenge has many layers - historically the problem was a lack of IPv6 content and infrastructure, but in recent years that has become less of an issue. Issues like a lack of knowledge and general hesitancy have been more pronounced. Universitas Islam Indonesia has been a leading advocate of IPv6 and a recent ISIF Asia-supported project sought to take the knowledge they had gained to higher education institutions, research organizations, and government agencies to help them in their IPv6 journey. The project had three key outcomes 1) Training over a hundred people across many organizations in IPv6, 2) Research into what was delaying IPv6 adoption and 3) proof of concept "tunnel broker" software that would allow organizations to experiment with IPv6 even if they hadn't been allocated any yet. The Asia Pacific Internet Engineering (APIE) program is a recently established program based out of Keio University that is hard at work teaching the next generation of Internet network operators and engineers - and in doing so, it is bringing them into a global community of people researching, operating and protecting the Internet. APIE participants hail from all over the Asia Pacific. Great to see APIE moving from strength to strength, and to the APIE participants, a big welcome to the #Internet technical community! #Education #netops #technicalcommunity
The APIE Program opened the fourth batch of its core course (Online courses 1 and 2 and e-Workshop) and celebrated new records: more than 570 learners registered for the course, and the first e-Workshop had more than 250 participants connected in real-time. The increase in the number of participants is the result of different efforts by APIE alumni, faculty members within the SOI Asia community, and external partners. VNNIC kindly hosted onsite gatherings for the first e-Workshop of this batch (photo), aiming to support the learning journey of Vietnamese students. Learn more about the contributions of different stakeholders, such as the University of San Carlos in the Philippines, to help us foster the next generation of Internet engineers. https://lnkd.in/gdRwtwfk

The NetMundial+10 outcome document was published a few hours ago. The Secretariat and the HLEC worked intensively to carefully review the consultation inputs. Throughout the process, the HLEC identified clear guidelines and process steps to successfully implement multi stakeholder processes, that along with the NetMundial principles are a practical contribution for a way forward. Join the process. Participate! https://lnkd.in/gVTx7VG9 #netgov #netmundial10

The EcoInternet Index, by DotAsia Organisation, was one of the first recipients of ISIF Asia’s Ian Peter Grants for #Internet and the #Environment. The project was a very clear fit for the goals of the Ian Peter Grants, which focus on exploring and solving environmental problems caused by the Internet. The EcoInternet Index considers a range of factors such as the use of #renewables and the nature of the economy, and from this it generates a framework that can be used to compare different jurisdictions. It is an ongoing project that continues to foster understanding of how the Internet and the environment interact. The 2023 Index evaluated 14 jurisdictions, with #NewZealand coming out at the top for eco-friendliness. #ProjectFireFly has completed its first milestone towards an IoT-drone-based fire detection and prevention system. It was fun to film our progress over the weekend with colleagues Dinesh Bhatia, Kampol Woradit and Pargorn Puttapirat. Watch this space for the official video coming out soon. #ProjectFireFly is a collaboration between University of Glasgow, Chiang Mai University and RMIT University Vietnam funded under the Ian Peter Grants for Internet and the Environment by APNIC Foundation. Special thanks to Forest Restoration Research Unit (FORRU-CMU) for hosting us and sharing insights into reforestation efforts.
