Event Overview
The Asia Pacific Domain Name System Forum (APAC DNS Forum) 2024 will take place from 23 to 24 July 2024 at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua in Bali, Indonesia. Jointly organized by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and Pengelola Nama Domain Internet Indonesia (PANDI), the theme for this year’s event is “Building Bridges: Strengthening Collaboration to Shape the Internet’s Future.” The APAC DNS Forum 2024 is expected to convene regional experts from the Internet and domain name industry to discuss the latest developments, opportunities, and challenges in the Internet and domain name marketplace.
The APAC DNS Forum 2024 will feature a multitude of topics discussing the role of the DNS from various perspectives. In addition to the technical topics such as cybersecurity and emerging technologies, the sessions also cover industry trends and business opportunities, to broader topics such as the potential impacts of regulatory, policy, and technological developments on the DNS industry.
The APAC DNS Forum 2024 serves as a platform for participants to network, exchange ideas, and explore collaboration opportunities. Held as a hybrid event, participants can attend either in-person or virtually. Registrations will be open till 20 July 2024, 23:59 UTC.

Description
How can we embrace the Internet’s advancements and shape its future together? Are we headed towards a Splinternet, and how can we collaborate to maintain a global and interoperable Internet?
This opening plenary will discuss current challenges and opportunities in the Internet and domain name space. Speakers will share potential impacts from various aspects such as technological developments (e.g. infrastructure capabilities, Artificial Intelligence), alternative name spaces, geopolitical considerations, regulations/legislation on the Internet. The session will also discuss the importance of collaboration across different stakeholder groups as we collectively shape the Internet we want.

Session 1A: Collectively Fostering Digital Transformation & Inclusion in Asia Pacific
Description
Digitalization has been a key focus area across the Asia Pacific region as the Internet becomes essential for connectivity and economic prosperity.
This session will discuss existing digital transformation and inclusion initiatives led by regional organizations and national governments. Panelists will also explore how different stakeholders can collectively expand such initiatives to further boost digital opportunities in the region.
Session 2B: Blockchain Naming System: An Extended Identity from the Domain Name System (DNS)?
Description
In this era, blockchain naming systems continue to evolve, driven by advancements in blockchain technology and the increasing adoption of decentralized applications (DApps) and cryptocurrencies.
This session will discuss some key characteristics and developments of blockchain naming systems in the current era, such as integration with decentralized web infrastructure, regulatory considerations, community governance and participation, as well as tokenization and monetization. Speakers will discuss the business outlook and opportunities from blockchain innovations.
Speakers will also explore how blockchain innovations can serve as an extended identity from the DNS, as well as potential coordination across the different naming systems.
Session 3A: Impact of Tech Policies and Regulation/Legislation on the Internet
Description
With the Internet becoming an integral part of our lives, tech policies and regulations/legislation are increasingly developed to mitigate and address potential online risks and harms.
This session will review policy and regulation/legislation trends across the Asia Pacific region, focusing on cybersecurity, network/traffic, privacy/security, Artificial Intelligence governance and other topics. Panelists will discuss the potential impact from such policies and regulations/legislation, and explore how we can increase collaboration and harmonization across the region.
Session 4A: Multistakeholder Norm-Setting and Internet Governacne
Description
The multistakeholder model (MSM) of Internet governance is the foundation for the success of a global, secure and interoperable Internet. This session will review current discussions relating to the MSM, including the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) +20 Review Process and Global Digital Compact (GDC).
The session will explore how the MSM can continue to be agile and respond to changes in this rapidly evolving digital landscape. Panelists will also share the importance of preserving the MSM in developing norms/standards/policies that enable further advancements of the Internet.

Description
The functioning of the Internet relies on several unique identifiers, including domain names. This session will focus on the growth potential of the domain name market, both from country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) and generic TLD (gTLD) perspectives.
With the APAC region representing a significant portion of Internet usage and penetration, this session will conduct a comparison of marketing strategies and regulatory domain environment across various TLDs. Speakers will discuss initiatives (e.g. Second-Level-Domain (SLD) provider) to promote market growth and to increase accessibility to the Internet through the domain name space.

Plenary Session 2: New gTLD Program: Next Round
Description
The new Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) Program in 2012 enabled the largest expansion of the Domain Name System (DNS). The next round of applications (Next Round) enabling more gTLDs is targeted to open in Q2 2026. What kinds of opportunities will a further expansion of the DNS provide?
In this session, speakers will share progress on operational and implementation work as well as key milestones towards the Next Round. The session will also explore business and economic opportunities arising from the Next Round.

Join us in shaping the conversation at the upcoming APAC DNS Forum 2024! We’re seeking session proposals from community members centred around the Forum’s theme at the event or during the pre-event webinars.
Evaluation Criteria
Proposals should focus on one or more of the following areas:
- Technical Subjects
- DNS Industry Trends
- Broad Topics such as Internet public policy and technological advancements
Proposals should also aim to accomplish at least one of the following objectives:
- Deliver timely updates and noteworthy information
- Stimulate collaborative conversations geared towards solving or addressing a specific problem statement
Session Information
Each session has a maximum duration of 60 minutes. Proposers have the flexibility to choose any session format that best suits their objective, such as panel discussion, roundtable, workshop, or others.
All sessions will be recorded and uploaded onto the APAC DNS Forum website. Additionally, sessions conducted during the Forum will be live-streamed to registered participants via Zoom.

Pre-event webinar organizers are kindly asked to confirm their speakers and moderators two weeks prior to the session’s scheduled start date. Similarly, organizers of Forum sessions are requested to finalize their line-up of speakers and moderators by 8 July 2024.

Entry Requirement
You may verify Indonesia’s Visa requirements for your country of origin and apply for a Visa via the official e-Visa website for Indonesia. Additionally, the Bali Provincial Government has implemented a new mandatory tourist levy of IDR 150,000 (about USD 10 equivalent) for all visitors to support efforts in preserving the nature and culture of Bali. Visitors are strongly encouraged to make payment online via the Love Bali – Bali Provincial Government website before departure to Bali.
Bali Airport and Transportation
Bali’s primary international airport is the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (also known as “Denpasar International Airport”). Various transport options are available, ranging from taxis to shuttle services, for your transfer from the airport to your hotel. More details can be found on the airport public transport page.

Health and Safety Measures
ICANN org monitors local health and safety risks, alongside relevant advisories and guidance from governmental and related public agencies. We collaborate closely with our local partners supporting the event to formulate and execute comprehensive event safety plans and procedures, ensuring a safe, healthy, and productive meeting environment.
Further details are provided below and will be updated as necessary. However, ICANN retains the right to adjust these plans should the situation prior to or during the meeting necessitate action to mitigate an outbreak or reduce the overall risk to delegates.
As a reminder, it is the responsibility of travellers to obtain adequate traveller and health insurance, covering any expenses incurred due to illness or injury while travelling.
Medical Services in Bali
Should you feel unwell during the event, we strongly advise limiting in-person activities and opting for virtual participation from your hotel room. If you decide to participate in any in-person activities while unwell or after exposure to an ill individual, we strongly recommend wearing a properly fitting mask to minimise risk to others.
Attendees seeking medical assistance for minor-to-moderate illness or injury during the event are encouraged to approach any resort staff for directions to the in-house clinic services provided at The Westin Resort or to visit the nearby Bali International Medical Centre (BIMC) Nusa Dua. COVID-19
The Indonesian Government has ceased COVID-19 testing, and any resultant quarantine measures are no longer in effect. Nevertheless, individuals testing positive for COVID-19 must refrain from entering The Westin Resort meeting spaces.

Pengelola Nama Domain Internet Indonesia (PANDI) was founded in 2006 and received redelegation from IANA as the Registry of .id in 2013. PANDI is an association consisting of multi-stakeholder membership including representatives of government, Internet Industry Operators, and Academics. Number of registered .id has grown to become the biggest ccTLD in Southeast Asia with 951,421 Domain Names as of 31 December 2023. The .id domain name represents Indonesia, identity, idea and more, for it has its own Domain Names Disputes Resolution managed directly by PANDI.
