Subject: We Must Prevent People (Children too) From Being Tricked Into Going to X Rated Sites

I am quoting an unanswered early post from James below, along with my response (I tried to respond in the thread but the system didn't allow it because the post was too old).

"I think these new extentions are greatly needed to help hinder children from being exposed to porn.  As an earlier post says, it will be so much easier for parents to restrict the access to these sites.
The only fair way I can see for porn sites is to offer them the "domain name".xxx say sex.xxx from whatever their current "domain  name".com/net/etc, so sex.com becomes sex.xxx.  So the company has a chance to keep its name.  Say give it a month and if the company doesn't want to have the "domain name".xxx, it will become available to buy. This will be easier for search engines to block adult content.  So you can search from some word without some sex site constantly coming up!!"

      My Response

This is the only situation that deserves consideration.  We must do something about the "surprises" that we and our children find when we are simply searching for information.

Add an .xxx or .sex TLD so that people that want to go to the red light district can and so that people that want to stay out of there also can.

James brings up a good point in that people who run these sites today have a right to free speech and should be given the chance to get their domain in the .xxx TLD first for a well publicized period of time.  Thereafter, the TLD should be opened up and offered first come first serve.

This is the only example I could think of where it should be done that way, because there is no other way to clearly separate the material.  I don't think that this should be done for famous names.  That is a different issue.

Lastly, just as the people who run x rated sites have the right to run them, people (and their children) who don't want to see them  have a right not to be tricked into going to them.  That happens too often and there needs to be a clear way to prevent it.
